"Life is not primarily a quest for pleasure, as Freud believed, or a quest for power, as Alfred Adler taught, but a quest for meaning. The greatest task for any person is to find meaning in his or her own life."

 - Victor Frankl

Even before George Floyd's murder and the Covid-19 pandemic exposed inconvenient truths about the US, hundreds of thousands of souls had been lost to despair from suicide and substance use disorders.

Victor Frankl got it right. By our meaningful actions, each of us can contribute to a just and joyful world — beginning with generosity toward ourselves. Our genuine smile, offer of help, and embrace of otherness can kindle ripples of well-being that nurture those in our care as well as strangers we never knew we touched. By burnishing our collective self-esteem, each of us can ensure that every American can flourish.
